If you've been carrying your worry stone every day, holding it through stressful moments and busy seasons, it's picked up a lot of energy along the way. Yours, and everything else you've moved through. Cleansing it every so often clears all of that and brings it back to its natural state, ready to support you fresh.
Think of it the way you'd think about washing your favourite jacket. It still works without it, but there's something noticeably good about wearing it clean.
Here's how to do it, a few different ways. ✨
Full moon cleansing
This is the one I keep coming back to. There's something deeply satisfying about placing your stones out under the full moon and collecting them in the morning, knowing the night has done its work.
Set your worry stone on a windowsill or outside on the night of the full moon. Leave it overnight. That's it. The moonlight does the cleansing and the charging at the same time, which is why this method is such a favourite. It's effortless and it feels intentional in the best way.
If you're not sure when the next full moon is, your phone's calendar or a quick search will tell you. Or follow along on our Instagram where we always mark the lunar calendar. ✨
Sage or palo santo smoke
Light your sage bundle or palo santo stick and let it catch, then blow it out gently so it smokes. Pass your worry stone slowly through the smoke a few times, turning it so the smoke touches every side.
As you do it, set a simple intention. Something like: clear whatever this stone has absorbed and return it to its natural energy. You don't need to say it out loud, just hold the thought as you move the stone through the smoke.
This one is especially good if you've been going through a heavy period and want to feel a clear reset rather than just a gentle refresh.
Selenite charging plate
Selenite is one of the few crystals that cleanses other crystals, which makes a selenite plate or slab one of the most useful things to have on your desk or nightstand.
Just set your worry stone on the selenite and leave it for a few hours or overnight. The selenite does the work without any effort from you. If you carry your stone daily, keeping it on a selenite plate each night is a beautiful low-effort ritual that keeps the energy consistently clear.
Running water
Hold your worry stone under cool running water for 30 to 60 seconds, visualising the water washing away any heavy or stagnant energy. Simple, grounding, and effective.
One important note: not all crystals are water-safe. Selenite, lepidolite, and malachite should never be submerged or held under running water as they can dissolve or be damaged. For these stones, stick to moonlight, smoke, or a selenite plate instead.
The crystals in our worry stone collection that are safe for water include rose quartz, amethyst, tiger's eye, obsidian, aventurine, labradorite, and lapis lazuli.
How often should you cleanse your worry stone?
If you carry it daily, once a month is a good rhythm. The full moon gives you a natural anchor for this, which is why so many people time their cleansing to the lunar cycle.
If you've been through something particularly intense, cleanse it sooner. You'll often know intuitively when it needs it. The stone can start to feel heavier, duller, or just a little off. That's your cue.
After cleansing: set a fresh intention
Once your stone is cleansed, take a moment to hold it in both hands and set a new intention. Think about what you want to invite in or what energy you want to carry with you. Let that feeling settle into the stone before you put it back in your pocket.
It takes thirty seconds and it makes a real difference to how the stone feels to carry. ✨

Frequently asked questions
How often should I cleanse my worry stone? Once a month is a good rhythm if you carry it daily. The full moon is a natural and easy anchor for this. If you've been going through something heavy, cleanse it sooner. Trust your instinct on timing.
Can I put my worry stone in water to cleanse it? It depends on the crystal. Rose quartz, amethyst, tiger's eye, obsidian, labradorite, aventurine, and lapis lazuli are all water-safe. Lepidolite, selenite, and malachite are not. When in doubt, use moonlight or sage smoke instead.
Do I need to cleanse a brand new worry stone? Yes, it's a good idea. A new crystal has passed through many hands before reaching you. Give it a cleanse when it arrives to clear any energy it's picked up along the way, then set your own intention before you start carrying it.
What is the easiest way to cleanse a worry stone? A selenite plate is probably the easiest. Just set your stone on it overnight and the selenite does the rest. Full moon cleansing is a close second as it requires nothing except remembering to put your stone out the night before.
Can I cleanse multiple worry stones at once? Absolutely. The full moon, a selenite plate, and sage smoke all work for multiple stones at the same time. If you're building a collection, cleansing them all together on the full moon is a lovely little ritual.
